An Islamist party in the country is working to appease the AL: Rizvi

Desk Report:

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that an Islamist party in the country is working to satisfy the Awami League. He made this comment at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan in the capital on Thursday (September 25).

Rizvi said, “I have always felt that an Islamist political party in our country is working to satisfy the Awami League. They got the opportunity to do politics in this country from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. They were a banned party. Shaheed Zia gave them the opportunity to do politics.”

Addressing the party, Rizvi said, “There is no such meeting of theirs, no such program of theirs, where they did not criticize the proclaimer of independence Ziaur Rahman in strong language. After that, we saw that in every incident, they worked in unity with the Awami League, with the decisions of the Awami League.”

Citeing an example, Rizvi said, “They promised the people one thing and did another.” They also did arson and burning in the movement that the Awami League made to demand a caretaker government. They also killed in various places during that time. Now they have come out in their own form again and are demanding the rehabilitation of the Awami League, and good relations with India.’

Rizvi further said, ‘The people of this country are moderate, the people of this country are religious but love democracy. They want to speak fearlessly, they want to make their voices louder even if they eat less for a day or two. If someone thinks they want to force the people of that country into a new wave of fascism, the people will not allow it.’

At that time, raising questions about the activities of some advisors and bureaucrats of the interim government, Rizvi said, ‘The activities of some advisors of this interim government are raising questions about the impartiality of the government in the public mind. It has come to the media that advisor Sajeeb Bhuiyan has taken the highest allocation in his own area… about 2500 crore taka. This is a kind of discrimination and a purposeful act. The common people have expressed their fear that he is preparing to become an MP in the future in the name of developing his area by taking advantage of the interim government.

He said, “Can an advisor or a high-ranking government bureaucrat carry out development activities in his area with government allocations of thousands of crores of taka? Doing this while leaving the entire country deprived is completely unethical and against principles. We have heard that the Cabinet Secretary is loyal to a particular political party. He may even contest elections after retirement. This is sad and against government discipline and transparency.”
